No. I don’t mean James Bond. This is not about 007. It’s about the predilection this country has for killing people who aren’t white, people of color. After the convictions of the killers of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery I posted on social media that maybe we had reached an end to the legal hunting of Black people. I was clearly premature.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, killed in Houston, TX by ICE agents. ICE claims he was trying to hit them with his car. Witnesses say this is a lie.

Joan Sebastian Guerrero, killed in Biddeford, ME. ICE was on a stakeout, looking for someone else. He was leaving the area. It’s unclear what really happened. First ICE claimed he was trying to hit an officer. Then the story changed, it’s now that he was posing a public safety hazard when fleeing the area. The problem? Just about every police agency in the country has a policy that says that officers are NOT supposed to fire at a car that’s “fleeing”.

We all saw the videos of what happened to Renee Good and Alex Pretti. We heard the lies that ICE and DHS told to cover up these murders.

Do ICE agents have a “license to kill”?

At least twenty-one people have been fired on by ICE since early 2025. More than fifty people have died in ICE custody since Trump started his second term.

America is not the land of the free when Black people have to worry that they will be murdered in their sleep like Breonna Taylor. America is not the land of the free when Black people have to worry that a police officer will kneel on their necks for eight minutes and 46 seconds like they did to George Floyd, until the life was choked out of him. America is not the land of the free when Black children can’t play with a toy gun without fear of being murdered like Tamir Rice. America is not the land of the free when Black people have to worry about being hunted down and murdered while out on a jog like Ahmaud Arbery. America is not the land of the free when Black people have to worry about being shot in the back in front of their children like Jacob Blake. America is not the land of the free when Black people’s murderers always go free.

The horror and the terror are exactly the point. This is our country. This is being done in OUR names.
