I’m becoming convinced that the best ways to deal with lies, especially those of DJT is through bigger, more believable lies. How has telling the truth worked for those of us on the left? Facts don’t matter. Science doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters to the #MAGA crowd is the lies. Just look at the story of QANON. Consider this:
- It doesn’t matter that we can show factually, through crime statistics, that the people who commit the least crimes per capita in our country are those who are here without legal documents. The lie persists that “they” are all thugs and criminals
- Science doesn’t matter. The COVID story clearly shows that. Science showed that masks work, that vaccines work, social distancing worked, closing schools and places people congregate worked, and more. But does a significant portion of our country believe it? No
- The same is true of climate change, global warming. The science is clear, yet the denial goes on.
- January 6, 2021 was NOT a peaceful protest, yet so many deny that the video evidence shows otherwise.
- There were multiple audits of the 2020 election. There was no fraud. The election was not stolen. And if it was? Then we Democrats must be pretty damned stupid. Wouldn’t we also have “stolen” better majorities in the House and Senate
I could go on. I think you get my point. Is the answer a bigger, more believable lie? When social media is the go to source for news do facts really matter? When the so called “right wing media” (Fox, NewsMax, OAN, et all) present the lies as factual then what is the best response? Telling the truth hasn’t worked.
As the last thought, if we on the left come up with the bigger better lie, are we giving up our values? And what will become of our nation, our world, if the truth doesn’t matter?
