Donald Trump should be dead. I can count at least three ways the shooter failed. I will not detail them. I won’t help someone who chooses to try it again. And I won’t help the MAGA/GOP acolyte that chooses to “retaliate” by trying to kill President Biden. What I will do is tell you what went wrong. I can only say this: a trained sniper wouldn’t have failed. The Secret Service did.
Vector Analysis. Threat Analysis. Threat Vector. All are terms I’ve learned. It started by looking at how hackers might attack an internet site. It expanded to general security. How can I hijack a plane? What went wrong on 09/11 and how can we prevent it from happening again. I learned to recognize how an attempt at “security” at the Delhi airport I was flying out of actually made things more dangerous. How would someone do it and succeed is the start of how to defend against an attack. If you can envision a problem then you can plan and prevent it. And that’s where the Secret Service failed. Failed. Failed. Failed. Big time. In Trump’s terms: “bigly”.
Look at it this way. The focus was on perimeter security, how do we keep a threat away, outside. They didn’t adequately look at threat analysis. A simple question was missed. It’s this: If I wanted to kill Donald Trump on this site then how would I do it? That’s it. Threat analysis. No one asked the right questions. How would I do it? A building with outside the perimeter with a clear line of shot.? Who looked? Did anyone? A big miss. Simply? Failure.
I won’t help explain why the shooter failed.
I can explain why the protective forces did.
Donald Trump is lucky to be alive.
We deserve better from our security services.
All of us.
Even Donald Trump.
