Divisive?

We are in the midst of another @GOP lie. Every call to stop the impeachment process is disingenuous a best, more likely treasonous. Consider this: our nation’s Capitol was attacked at the behest and call of the President of the United States. How is it wrong to hold him accountable? Republicans in Congress keep saying that it will be “divisive”. I posit that the opposite is true, that the truly divisive path is to avoid accountability, to not prosecute the President under all applicable laws, including impeachment. It is divisive to allow members of the Congress and the Senate who supported this insurrection to remain in the body. The same is true of the rioters who stormed the Capitol. If we do not hold all of the participants accountable then we are condoning their actions. Silence is not just complicity, it is support. Without accountability the message is that what was done was justifiable. And that will lead to further division, to events like this happening again and again. Dr. King wrote from the Birmingham County Jail that we, as citizen’s of the United States, have a moral obligation to defy unjust laws. He also said that we need to be held accountable under those laws, no matter how unjust they are. If the President believes his actions were justifiable then let him stand before an impeachment trial in the Senate, before the court of public opinion, and state his case.

  2. The cries for unity from Republicans are too little too late. After watching several fox “news” programs last night one can easily see that the false rhetoric has not changed. hannity uses the “fair” reporting phrase as he continue to call out the “fake news”, this is his idea of unity? A variety of actors like gaetz, Grinnell and even jeffress were paraded out to call for unity. Where were all these moral values for the last 4-5 years? The GOP has continually coddled the vehement rhetoric from trump and now they want civility!
A second impeachment is not the engine driving this nation apart as that has already been accomplished by trump and his Republican sycophants. When will they realize that trump will never change. Impeached for a “perfect call” he does it again trying to criminally falsify election results. he gets himself suspended from Twitter and immediately repeats his incitement to violence incurring a permanent ban. The list is endless notwithstanding Covid.
To my knowledge trump has never personally answered in his lifetime for any of his multiple wrongdoings. “I take no responsibility” is his creed. Allowing him to walk away from the Capitol riots and resulting murders is not trashing unity it is the ultimate example of enablement.
I most wholeheartedly subscribe to the unity of Americans but after witnessing the nationwide incidents of intimidation, harassment and armed criminal activity Wednesday I can’t turn the other cheek. The head of this cultural snake must be figuratively removed by resignation or Article 25. Since both of these resolutions have no chance of coming to fruition Impeachment becomes the only viable solution.
trump must finally and publically take responsibility.
